A frustrated Palmetto Bay resident speaks
"I thought about this a lot this past weekend as I enjoyed the quiet in my neighborhood.
In the response I received from a VPB Council Member to my previous
email, I was told that their 5-0 vote in opposition was "non-binding"
because they (the Council) have "no say" in the matter. I started to do
some research.
"No say" means No Authority, No Jurisdiction in this matter. Just like
the "Pilot Program" they installed near your neighborhood that, per the
VPB Council, had to be removed at the demand of the County. The stop
sign on 82 north of 152, the list goes on.
Our VPB Council has no authority over the streets, and the traffic
clogging those streets. That authority rests with the County.
So the question must be asked: Why has the VPB Council wasted our tax
money on "Studies," community meetings, staff time and resources, for
something they have absolutely no power or authority to control?
What about all the time we wasted on Community meetings being shown
exhibits on different calming plans and devices "they" were going to
install? What about their promises that "The Village" was taking care
of all this for us?
If traffic is the biggest problem facing this Village right now, and the
Council has no power or authority to do anything about it, why do we
have a Council?
I'm angry. We've wasted over 4 years engaging with the Village on this
traffic issue, and it turns out this entire time they've had "no say."
