Do you like excessive fees and cumbersome restrictions?

The latest new ordinance enacted in Pincecrest is a good example of how burdensome or excessive municipal regulations can sometimes be.

It will cost $800 to initially register to provide Airbnb rentals plus another $265 yearly for inspection and $275 to renew each year. How many Pinecrest residents actually knew about this proposal or got to voice their opinion before it passed? With the various taxes, fees, and fines that are created by municipal codes residents can end up paying more and more money and being increasingly at the mercy of city officials and code enforcement. If you can't afford the rising costs or fines that are assessed then you risk having a lien placed on your property. This type of threat also leads to bribery and other schemes, where the power of code enforcement is abused by those who become corrupted by power.

It is not unusual for unpaid liens to become an issue with real estate transactions. Having a municipal government adds another possible disruption with real estate transactions since the municipality is yet another government (in addition to the County) that could have code violations assessed and property liens in force. The municipality is continually making money at its residents' expense. Why would you want to create a municipality if there isn't a need, when municipal services are already provided by the existing County government? The arbitrarily proposed Falls community doesn't have any specific needs or interests that necessitate creating a new government, but if a new government is created it will inevitably look for ways to pass rules to restrict the freedom of residents and collect revenues. Will you personally be overseeing the town council to give your input on many of the matters they address? Let's not be deceived into thinking we need something that we don't and leaving ourselves at the mercy of revenue collectors and potential petty tyrants.

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves" - UK Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger
